Welcome to Yashab Magazine!

Happy New Year and welcome to the inaugural issue of Yashab Magazine! As the Editor and Publisher, I can tell you that I am overjoyed with this effort. In my capacity as a mental health professional and biblical counselor, I have come across so many individuals that are struggling in their mind. This should be no surprise to you if you watch the evening news. Mental Health has become a buzzword in the media, and rightly so. The inward struggles of individuals have aggressively been placed on an outward display for us all to live through. It is commonplace to hear or read about overdose, suicide, gun violence, murder and death in the same sentence as mental instability. I would go on to say that 17% of the American population is currently taking a psychotropic medication. Perhaps you fall into this category. Or maybe your spouse or your children do. Whatever the case may be, the bottom line is this, help is needed.

My next statement may be controversial for some, nonetheless, I believe that every mental illness has its root cause in spiritual deficits. Which brings me back to this magazine. Yashab, which is a Hebrew word that means to dwell, provide shelter, or marry, is both the cause and the answer to the problems that plague us all. You see, when you connect, make a dwelling in or marry the wrong thing (trauma, pain, sorrow) you will reap a negative result. Contrarily, when you connect, dwell, and or marry the right One you experience the abundant life that Christ paid for and mental health challenges become a thing of the past. It is from this perspective that Yashab Magazine will offer practical application in every area of your life.

This issue features articles from my friends and colleagues, Shelby Frederick, Preslin Isaac, and Jeremy Thomas. Each contributor offers thoughts and strategy for starting the new year off right. In future issues, we will tackle marriage, singleness, parenting, grief and loss, trauma, decision-making and much more all from a Biblical perspective. I pray that Yashab will be a blessing to your life and I look forward to and certainly welcome your feedback. May the Lord richly bless you in the year to come. Shalom!
